Cat Maltose Squishy

A cat squashed into a cube, made of syrup. The face is printed on a soft maltose cube that stretches when you pull it and settles back when you stop. It is genuinely non-stick and odourless, which is not a given in this category.

A Cube That Flows

Corners are the interesting part. Pull one and it draws out into a point before slowly rounding off again as the gel settles — so the cat looks different every few seconds while it recovers. A round toy cannot do that.

Non-Stick and Odourless

Cheaper gel toys pick up lint and smell faintly of solvent out of the packet. This one does neither, which matters if it is going in a pocket or a pencil case rather than staying on a desk.

Four Colours

Blue, pink, purple and orange, each with its own printed face. They are small enough that people buy two or three and line them up rather than choosing one.

Care and When to Stop Using It

Do not bite, puncture, twist or overstretch the skin. The gel inside is sealed and non-toxic, but a torn skin cannot be repaired and the toy should be thrown away rather than patched. Keep it away from sharp objects, radiators and direct sunlight, and wipe it with a barely damp cloth rather than soaking it. If the surface ever turns greasy instead of dry, retire it.

Printed faces are on the surface — rubbing hard with a damp cloth will fade them.
