Watching It Work

The body is translucent, so the deformation is visible as well as felt. Held up to a lamp you can see the core shift while the surface crackles, which is why this one performs better on camera than an opaque fruit.

Care and When to Stop Using It

Do not bite, puncture, twist or overstretch the skin. The gel inside is sealed and non-toxic, but a torn skin cannot be repaired and the toy should be thrown away rather than patched. Keep it away from sharp objects, radiators and direct sunlight, and wipe it with a barely damp cloth rather than soaking it. If the surface ever turns greasy instead of dry, retire it.

If the skin ever splits and the core starts to weep, retire it — a torn gel toy cannot be repaired.
