Recalled Dumpling Squishies 2026: Which Ones and How to Check Yours

Last updated 11 September 2026 · Safety & sourcing

On 3 September 2026, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced two recalls covering roughly 15,200 squishy dumpling toys. Both involve water beads that can expand inside a child's body if swallowed. If you bought a dumpling squishy between May and August 2026, this page tells you how to check whether yours is affected.

Stop using the toy immediately if it matches either description below.

Water bead ingestion can cause choking, intestinal obstruction, severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration and death. No injuries had been reported as of the recall date, which is exactly why acting now matters.

Which Dumpling Squishies Were Recalled in September 2026

Two separate recalls were issued on the same day by different companies. They look similar because both copy the same viral format: a translucent squishy with a cartoon face, packed in a tan plastic container shaped like a bamboo steamer.

GIHNJSI Squeezy Dumplings

Around 8,000 units. Translucent round squishy balls with cartoon faces, glitter-like particles and water beads inside. The removable label reads "SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS" and "SQUEEZE ME". Sold exclusively on Amazon from May through June 2026 for about $20.

OKK Trading Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toy, Model D08004

Around 7,200 units. Translucent pink, containing glitter and water beads, with a cartoon face. Packaging labelled "Rainbow MYSTERY" and "SUGAR EDITION". Sold through various third-party stores nationwide from May through August 2026.

How to Check Your Dumpling Squishy in Under a Minute

  • Is it translucent? You can see into the body rather than just at it. Opaque slow-rise foam dumplings are a different product entirely.
  • Can you see beads? Small spheres moving inside, distinct from suspended glitter. This is the defining hazard.
  • Does it squelch rather than rise? Water bead toys shift and slosh. Genuine slow-rise foam takes about two seconds to puff back into shape.
  • Check the packaging labels. "SUGAR EDITION", "SQUEEZE ME" and "Rainbow MYSTERY" are the printed markers named in the recall notices.
  • No markings on the toy itself? Both recalled products carry nothing beyond the cartoon face. Authentic branded dumplings have a moulded base mark.

How to Get a Refund on a Recalled Squishy Dumpling

For the OKK Trading recall, the CPSC remedy is specific. Write "RECALLED" in permanent marker on the dumpling and its tan plastic container, throw the toy away, then email a photo of the disposed toy to recall@okktoys.com for a full refund.

For the GIHNJSI Squeezy Dumplings, contact the seller through Amazon and reference the September 2026 CPSC recall. Keep your order confirmation. Do not donate, resell or pass on a recalled toy, including to older children.

The short version: translucent body plus visible beads plus bamboo-style tan container equals stop using it. Foam dumplings sold as slow-rise are not part of these recalls.

Why Water Bead Dumplings Exist at All

The viral original is a slow-rise foam toy. Water bead versions appeared because the trend outran supply and cheaper manufacturing routes filled the gap. Gel and bead fillings are faster and less expensive to produce than proper slow-rise foam, and they photograph well because the beads catch light like glitter. They also fail toy safety testing, which is how both products ended up recalled.

This is the practical reason to care where a mystery dumpling squishy comes from. Two toys can look identical on a listing photo and be made of completely different materials.

Every dumpling we stock is slow-rise foam, checked on arrival and tested against the toy safety standards for the markets we ship to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all dumpling squishies being recalled?

No. The September 2026 recalls name two specific products. Slow-rise foam dumplings from other makers are not covered by these notices.

What if my child already swallowed a water bead?

Seek medical attention immediately rather than waiting for symptoms. Water beads expand after ingestion, and imaging can miss them because many are not visible on standard X-rays.

How do I know if a new purchase is safe?

Buy from a seller that publishes its sourcing and its age ratings, and check the filling material before ordering. Anything described as gel-filled or bead-filled deserves a direct question to the seller.
